What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy – The practise and use pure essential oils to enhance physical, mental & emotional wellbeing. Used for their aroma as well as their therapeutic values hence the name aroma-therapy.

I love aromatherapy! Its definitely mother nature working at her best.

Just a small bit of info to help get you on your way, this is a collection of tips tricks and the building blocks for starting your very own aroma journey

“The practise of Aromatherapy means to use pure essential oils to enhance physical, mental & emotional wellbeing “

Using plants as fragrance & healing aids and purifiers, goes back to many ancient civilisations around the world.

In India for thousands of years the aromas for flowers such as Jasmine and Rose, woods such as sandalwood & herbs such as Pachouli have had a multitude of uses, dramatic floral garlands draped around statues, incense blend’s and oil based perfumes and skin care

The Egyptians used frankincense resin on a massive scale burning it as incense to purify sacred space in temples and in the living quarters of the pharaohs.

Also after bathing they would anoint their bodies with oil to protect them from the drying effects of the baking sun and to rejuvenate their skin. if its good for Cleopatra then I’m sure it’s good for us too.

What is an essential oil?

An essential oil is a liquid that is generally distilled (most frequently by a stream or water) from the leaves, flowers, bark, roots or other elements of a plant.

Essential oils contrary to the use of the word ‘oil’ are not really oily in feeling at all.

Essential oils contain the true essence of the plant it was derived from & are highly concentrated; a little goes a long way

They are also categorised by being a

Top note – usually zesty & fruity aromas like bergamot, tea tree & lemon

Middle note – usually floral aromas like lavender, camomile & geranium

Base note – usually earthy woody aromas like sandalwood, frankincense & benzoin

For me the beauty of using essential oils is, not only that they smell divine but, that they posses a wide range of healing properties that can be used effectively to keep you in the best of health as well as looking & smelling good in a natural way.

They can provide so many healing solutions for literally hundreds of different conditions it makes my mind boggle just thinking about it…

have you got itchy skin? – theres an oil for it

have you got a headache? – theres an oil for it

need a boost in concentration – theres an oil for it

want to change your mood? – theres an oil for it

have a mozzy bite – theres an oil for it

literally everything you could think of there is an oil that will help. Truly Amazing!!

**Please remember though that essential oils are powerful, they are after all in a concentrated form! Not many essential oils can be used directly on your skin.**

Also for all the mummies to be out there, it is advised not to use oils in the first 3 months of pregnancy or on your babba in the first 3 months of their birth

Always double check with an qualified aromatherapist before you use them.
