Hot Stone Massage

10 Jul Hot Stone Massage

Nice to talk again!

We are talking about Hot stone massage, just the thing you need at this time of year!

This is one of my most favourites massages to do and receive.
The secret is, all about the temperature you get from the stones.

Hot stones have been used through out the ages of time for their healing aspects & heat retaining properties.
This therapeutic treatment is thought to have originated in China almost 2,000 years ago. Since then, the technique of using stones for healing has been used in many different cultures, including the Americas, Africa, Egypt, and India

Being part of mother nature, I feel the element of grounding and connection is automatically gifted to you in every hot stone massage.
The warming stones melt away all tension, stress from the inside out.
The stones I use are a type of volcanic rock that retains heat extreme well, called basalt stones.

The most important thing to remember is that the stones should never be left directly on your skin like many of the lovely spa pictures show, there is aways either a barrier such as a towel or a sheet, or the therapist is moving them to use in the massage & distribute the heat evenly.

The stones are positioned in such a way that all your major muscle groups receive a delightful warming sensation, that deeply penetrates and aids your complete relaxation. The combination of strokes and glides of the warm stones melt away joint pain & stiffness, leaving you time to unwind, connect, heal and drift away with your thoughts.

What the heat does in the body and the benefits?

So here comes a bit of science
There are many benefits and could be here all day so heres just a few.

On a Physiological level
Improved Circulation
Typically, your therapist allows the heated stones to rest on large muscle groups on your body before beginning the actual massage.
As the heat from the stones penetrates into your deeper body tissues, your blood vessels dilate. When blood vessels dilate the flow of blood is increased due to a decrease in vascular resistance. Therefore, dilation of blood vessels can decreases blood pressure & increase circulation, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, helping to ease aches and pains, remove waste, regulate hormones and the immune system, promoting more self – healing.

Muscle Relaxation
Overly tense muscles can hinder your massage, and be painful or tender.
So if your muscles are extremely tight or stiff, the heated stones may provide the extra relaxation you need. The heat from the stones helps your muscles relax in a much gentler way. Therefor allowing the most benefit in working on your deep tissues with more effect.

Pain relief
While all types of massage can help relieve pain caused by tense muscles, stiff joints or injuries, a hot stone massage may provide greater relief due to the intense nature of the massage.

On a Psychological level
Thermotherapy relieves restlessness and insomnia.
Promotes a sense of wellbeing
Reduces stress, anxiety and tension
helps lift depression
Soothes the mind
Can trigger inspiration and insights
Grounding energy from the stones

So what are you waiting for… book yourself one now warm up those winter blues!
